As an intermediate viola player, I have made a disturbing discovery –there is a dearth of music literature for viola duets. I have looked online for free downloads and scoured myriad music books on Amazon and music publishing sites, but still haven’t come up with an interesting selection of inspiring music. It seems that playing the viola is just not as popular or cool as other string instruments.
I am meaning to change that. As a composer, I have begun to write several duets as part of a collection of diverse styles, ranging from classical, romantic, tango, to more contemporary music.
The beauty of composing anything is that music can always be transcribed for other instruments. Hopefully, one day soon, there will be more options for lovely viola duets.
