Although music played such a vital role from the age of eight, it became a joyless experience over the years. I studied piano, voice and cello, but I lacked an enthusiastic teacher (some were task masters), who would support my abilities as a musician. What I needed was a mentor who would cheer me on, encourage my aspirations.
I finally found a teacher who supports my love of music, bringing the joy of playing into my life again. I am presently learning the viola and returning to my composing with a confidence and excitement that didn’t exist before.
The study of music can only be a positive experience under the tutelage of one who will encourage and nurture one’s interests and talent, allowing music to flourish and be joyful.
